Introducing the puppies, mongrels & cubs, and da Lion King himself

Hey - what would the Lion King Puppies Relay for Life team be, if not for the team of dedicated individuals who are putting their heart and souls into creating something fresh? And not just for the one event - no... we'd like to carry this concept on for ever :)

These next few posts will be dedicated to introducing the puppies to you.

Here's a little about rowan: da lion king. one of our puppie mongrels.

basically, where Rowan's concerned, if it has anything to do with .....bikes, cars, adventure .....sailing, rallying, or bike racing, he's in front and in line. however and more importantly when it's to help raise money for the serious and insidious disease, Cancer, ......he's right up there raising the flag.

so, whether prowling the business or nite life jungle, rowan is dependable, strong and a great leader of the puppies pack. his enthusiasm and spontaneity spur us on. not shy in coming forward, he knows how to have his say and also writes a blog about various issues close to his heart. Rowan's blogger profile is here: http://www.blogger.com/profile/13434184557287461721

Rowan's aim for the Lion King Puppies is to raise awareness about body issues, health and well being.

way to go!!

next up with be comments about Maria, our main fundraisier and organiser... our Team Captain Charlie, our costume and set designer Robyn, and our PR puppies Liz, Karen and Quinny. after that we might make mention of the mongrels. or, our guys.

The Lion King Puppies attend the Relay for Life

The “Relay for Life” event for the Cancer Council is held in 23 countries around the world and is the single biggest fundraiser in the world.

The Lion King Puppies aim is to raise awareness about body issues, health and well being. The puppies want to get playful, have some fun and bring it back to the people. It’s a serious topic, but we have a fresh approach.

Fresh? So what happens when a group of people from Adelaide get together and decide to turn a worldwide charity event that raises the most amount of money for cancer research ever, on its head?

What happens is...

....a different perspective. That’s what.

From throwing a ball in the park to rolling around in the bedroom, the puppies are committed, especially to helping charities involving children, AIDS, Breast and Skin Cancer and homelessness (which in 1st world countries usually involves Mental Health issues).

Cancer is a serious and insidious disease. However, for our efforts we will try to have as much fun, laughter and joking as we possibly can over the Relay for Life 24hr stint, while also keeping our eye on the much more serious efforts of raising money to fight Cancer.

It will be done with compassion for those who suffer from the effects of an oppressive and debilitating condition.

With the passion for body awareness and bringing it back, what better than to encourage, teach, show, demonstrate and be available to those wanting to learn about breast examinations. Men and women alike need to understand, and sometimes the best place to enjoy body awareness is in the bedroom. Hey, it might even help in other areas...

FUNDRAISING FOR CANCER

WELCOME and THANKS
Thanks so far for your interest and Support with the upcoming “Relay for Life” in support of Cancer. The “Relay for Life” is held in 23 countries around the world and is the single biggest fundraiser in the world. So thanks for your involvement – even if you cannot attend with us for the 24hrs at the end of March, 2009. Moral support is wonderful too.

As the “LION KING” I have absolute pleasure in WELCOMING you all to the 2009 event. Just to clarify this whole LION KING thing, it all came about as a series of conversations and mucking about. I certainly do not have any illusions of this being “my project” – it just ended up that way. I want this to be EVERYONE’s project. Having said that I am committed to the whole cause, especially things like charities involving children, AIDS, Breast Cancer, Skin Cancer and homelessness(which in 1st world countries usually involves Mental Health issues). Now some more serious stuff. As you may or may not know, our Team has a maximum of 15 members – and all 15 members will be required to actually “walk” in the Relay format for the 24hrs. So everyone will be “walking” for about 1.5hrs overall.

Cancer is a serious and insidious disease, and for our efforts we will try to have as much fun, laughter and joking as we possibly can over that 24hr stint, while also keeping our eye on the much more serious efforts of raising money to fight Cancer. We might not win any prizes for the most money raised, (although I’d love us to have a serious crack at it) but it will be done with compassion for those who suffer from the effects of an oppressive and debilitating condition.

As you all know Cancer comes in many forms, including Breast Cancer, Skin Cancer and many other forms and we want to dedicate just ONE HOUR out of the 24hrs towards “Breast Cancer” in particular. Its in this area where we are concentrating our efforts with the fund raising. So far Admin is showing 9(nine) confirmed “Official Puppies” – and myself as a confirmed “walker”. So that’s 10 of the 15 positions already “taken”. So only 5 spots are left for the “Relay for Life” Team. So please nominate yourself as an “Official Puppie” – and if we are oversubscribed we will need to have a count back to the 1st who pay their $10 nomination fee – to be fair as forming part of the official 24hr walking team.

That still allows the rest of the “litter” to still make a very valuable contribution towards other desperately needed factors like the Media & PR Team, Logistics & Admin Team, Fundraising Team, etc.

So folks, please consider how you can make the most valuable contribution with your time and skills in this overall effort. If you cannot attend the Lion’s Den meeting on Thursday evening (5th Feb) [Agenda posted on here as a PIC – have a look ] then advise where your skills can best be utilised, and if you have time (AND HOW MUCH TIME) to give towards the very very important background work which we still need to undertake - to pull this whole project together.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

ROOOOAAAAAR !!!

The Lion King (aka “Rowan”) and Queeni (aka “Charlie” – also the “Team Captain”).
